Join us for some summer style inspiration with creator, designer and gorgeous muse Batsheva Hay at her first store on Elizabeth street NYC. We reunited with Batsheva just before the Memorial Day weekend as she prepared for a holiday sale in her stunning new shop with the coolest sales clerks who happily host curious visitors and her impressive clientele. Scroll on down as we capture Batsheva in some of her favorite frocks/smocks and a catch up on her latest makeup/skincare musts, advice to young female business owners, the dreamy store decor, love of vintage and her summer bare essentials.

The Bare Magazine: Can you share what you’re loving about having your own store?

Batsheva Hay: I love having independence at my store to sell exactly what I want and to test new styles out with customers. I get immediate feedback on whether something fits, appeals to them, etc. It has been a dream and I love being there as much as possible.

Bare: How did the look and decor come together?

BH: I worked with my friend Adam Charlap-Hyman to figure out how to translate my love for textiles and colors into a physical space. He helped me with the deicsion to use fabric on the walls, and he connected me with an artist, Tim Snell, to paint the floor an abstract animal print. We had so much fun.

Bare: You’re so open to creating and wearing different makeup and hair looks. Do you enjoy channeling different moods, eras and being a canvas?

BH: I love experimenting and having fun with both fashion and beauty. Sometimes I am inspired to transform into a punk and sometimes into a 1950s housewife.

Bare: In general, what’s your daily beauty routine and go-to uniform?

BH: I use Tata Harper products every day: the Oil Cleanser and the Elixir Vitae are musts. I love a cat eye and either do a liquid liner (almost any brand will do) or sometimes a colorful eye pencil. I love a gloss too; Merit Beauty has some great colors for lips. As far as a uniform, it's usually a floral cotton dress, but it could be anything depending on my mood. Today I'm wearing a gingham housedress I designed with a fisherman vest on top.

Bare: Have you always been a fan of thrifting? Are you going to include vintage pieces at the shop?

BH: I have loved vintage clothing and thrifting since I was a kid. I grew up in Queens back when the Salvation Army had really good gems everywhere. I am such a vintage collector that I decided to keep a small selection from my vintage archive at my shop.

Bare: Is there any advice you can share with up and coming female business owners?

BH: My best advice is to make sure you love what you are making and selling. If you belive in it, it shows through and people will be attracted to it.

Bare: What would you say your top five bare SUMMER essentials will be?

BH:

1. Tata Harper Oil cleanser: It gets off all the gunk and I love the small

2. Tata Harper Elixir Vitae: A dangerously full and hydrating face lotion. I can't go without it before bed, smells divine.

3. Merit Flush Balm in Beverly Hills: I love the packaging and shape of these blushes and this shade is perfect for my pale skin

4. Chanel Baume Essentiel in Sculpting: It's the perfect shade of highlighter. I dab it on for a beautiful glow

5. KVD beauty tattoo liquid liner: This is a good one but almost any brand will do. I love the drama of a cat eye
